PennDOT said the project to improve intersection safety in Penndel Borough will require side street lane closures this week.

The utility work that will cause the lane closures is part of the Lincoln Highway and Hulmeville Avenue intersection project.

From Monday through Friday, lane closures are scheduled on Hulmeville Avenue between West Lincoln Highway and Crescent Street, and another lane closure is scheduled on Noeland Avenue between West Lincoln Highway and Crescent Street. The lane closures will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists are advised by PennDOT to allow extra travel time as backups and delays are expected.

The work and lane closures are weather dependent.

Starting last month, an eastbound lane of West Lincoln Highway between Glen Avenue and Centre Street is closed around the clock through Tuesday, August 29 for the project.

As part of the project, PennDOT’s contractor, Road-Con Inc., of Chester County, will widen the existing intersection by adding exclusive left-turn lanes, pave and stripe the intersection and its approaches, upgrade existing traffic signal equipment, and install new handicap-accessible curb ramps at the West Lincoln Highway intersections at Hulmeville Avenue and Noeland Avenue. Other enhancements include replacing the existing sidewalk along the north and south sides of West Lincoln Highway approaching the intersection with Hulmeville Avenue, adjusting the curbing to improve truck turning radius, and upgrading drainage inlets and pipes.

The $2.2 million project is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
