Hours after it became public that the Neshaminy School District’s superintendent was suddenly placed on leave and escorted from the administrative offices, the school board had nothing to say about the subject at their public board meeting Tuesday evening.

With no comments on the matter, the school board voted to place McGee on a leave of absence retroactive to last Friday. No reason was given.

No members of the public spoke at the meeting about the situation, but on social media residents wondered why McGee was placed on leave.

As LevittownNow.com exclusively reported Tuesday, sources with knowledge of the situation said McGee was escorted out of the administrative offices at Maple Point Middle School in Middletown Township. He was then placed on leave.

Sources have since confirmed McGee was escorted by security staff and board members from the district’s office late Friday afternoon after most staff was gone for the day.

McGee remains an employee of the district and continues to be listed as superintendent, but Director of Secondary Education Jason Bowman has been appointed the substitute superintendent.

McGee has not commented on the situation as of Wednesday.

Many district employees have told this news organization that they were not aware of McGee being placed on leave until rumors began to swirl Monday. Several employees said they learned of the incident Tuesday morning around the time LevittownNow.com’s article was published or when they arrived at school.

McGee’s contract with the district as superintendent began in June 2020 and continues through the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

McGee is a Levittown native and Neshaminy graduate. He worked as a math teacher and served in various administrative roles before getting the top job after Superintendent Joseph Jones left Neshaminy at the end of his contract.

Neshaminy’s top non-elected official has been generally well regarded throughout the community. Many people were shocked to learn of his leave of absence.

McGee received largely positive reviews for the district’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and return to in-person learning.
