This week, State Sen. Steve Santarsiero, a Democrat from Lower Makefield Township, announced the money will go toward the nonprofit and the programs, which serve all of Bucks County and operate out of the Bristol Township YMCA location.
The two programs supported are Empower U and Stand-Up, according to YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties.
Empower U is a donor-supported program that was established in 2014 with late YMCA member Peg George, a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives between 1976 and 1980.

In order to improve the health, happiness, and self-esteem of teen females, George created a 12-week program with two one-hour sessions per week. The sessions main objectives are to improve general health and wellness, positive relationships, and self-esteem. The program is free for teens.
The Stand-Up program will be newly implemented in 2023 and will target boys in grades 7 to 9.

As part of the new program, the YMCA will grant teen boys in the program a complimentary 12-month membership. The membership provides access to e-sports venues, a free fitness orientation, and health and wellness amenities. The teens can enhance their physical fitness, make new friends, and develop their confidence and other social skills through the Stand-Up program, which attempts to give them a venue to do so.
The YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties have found that more than 90 percent of boys and girls who participated in their programs experienced overall improvements in physical and mental wellness and improved senses of confidence and self-esteem, according to a new release.
