The Falls Township Board of Supervisors recognized several Falls Township residents and organizations for their efforts to improve the community.
The supervisors celebrated Marie’s Kozy Korner’s sixth annual chili cookoff that raised $6,000 for the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter, which serves all of the county at its Bristol Township location.

The proprietors of Marie’s Kozy Korner gave Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter staff member Murielle Kelly a check from the bar’s most recent fundraising event at Monday night’s public meeting.
“It’s dear to us,” said Jason Lawson, the Falls Township Public Works Department director and husband of Nancy Lawson, who co-owns the bar with her mother, Marie Krotz. “We really don’t want to see anyone struggle, especially the kids.”
The shelter is run by the Family Service Association of Bucks County and is the only round-the-clock shelter in the county. It serves more than 300 families, Kelly said.

The shelter had between 30 and 75 persons waiting for emergency lodging on average before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, more than 200 people have been waiting for a slot at the shelter during the past two years.
“It can take six months to get into the shelter,” Kelly said.
In addition to the wait to get into the shelter, the organization runs a housing link help line. The number has seen an increase of more than 1,000 calls and totals about 4,500 calls.

Through December 11, Marie’s Kozy Korner is collecting gift items to be donated to the shelter. More can be found at the bar’s website.

Also at the meeting, the supervisors presented officials from the Fallsington Library with a check for $645. The money was raised from a recent community yard sale benefit at Falls Township Community Park.
Falls Township Parks and Recreation Director Brian Andrews and Theresa Katalinas, who works with the township on public relations, were recognized for organizing the event.

Additionally, the supervisors and Andrews congratulated the winners of this year’s fall scarecrow contest. The first place winner was the Stillwell and Kelley families; the second place winner was Girl Scout Troop 2029, and the third place winner was the Hansen family.
The winners of the contest were presented a certificate and a gift card for Arosso, A Touch of Sicily restaurant.
