A businessman is leading the charge to open a battery shop along Veterans Highway in Bristol Township.

The franchisee, incorporated as Madhuram Farms LP and the owner of the property, plans to open a Batteries Plus location at 501 Veterans Highway. The building previously served as a restaurant and bar. Last year, it was set up as a convenience store but it never opened.
The Bristol Township Zoning Hearing Board this month granted approval for the business to open. Approval was needed because the property is zoned residential but has operated as a commercial space for decades.
The property is about an acre and has just over 20 parking spaces.

The franchisee said the Batteries Plus store would be provide a different type of retail business along the roadway.
Batteries Plus has looked at the demographics and market. It found that area of Bristol Township would be suitable for their company, the franchisee said.

The business would sell battery products ranging from watch batteries to car batteries. The business would also repair smartphones.
Batteries Plus has more than 800 stores, including several in Bucks County.
The building was home to Skinny Dugan’s bar in the 1980s into the 2000s and then Dunlap’s Bar and Grille before becoming Stadium Bar and Grill, which closed within the past few years.
