Middletown Township police were called to Hedge Road in the township’s Levittown section for a report of a man shining a flashlight in a neighbor’s house and acting strange.
At the scene, officers attempted to speak with the man, but he became irritated and “spoke irrationally,” police said on Friday.
The man then threatened officers with a machete and said he would “decapitate” them, police said.

Several officers used their Tasers, but the man did not stop and retreated to the garage of a home, barricading himself inside, police said.
The regional South Central Emergency Response Team was activated and set up a perimeter around the home, police said.

Negotiators attempted to communicate with the man and were involved in the standoff into early Thursday morning, police said.
Around 5 a.m., tactical operators made entry to the garage and took the 66-year-old man into custody after fending off an attempt to resist being taken into custody, police said.
No injuries were reported by officers, but the suspect suffered minor injuries, police said.

The man – identified as John D. McCallum, 66 – was taken to Lower Bucks Hospital and is being held on a mental health commitment, police said.
Charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest were filed against McCallum, but he still needs to be preliminarily arraigned in the case, according to a court docket.
