Firefighters freed a teenage girl who became stuck in the mud in the emptier-than-normal Lake Luxembourg at Core Creek Park in Middletown Township.

Around 5:25 p.m. Monday, the Langhorne-Middletown, Penndel, and Newtown fire companies responded to the park off Toll Gate Road for the call.

Frank Farry, the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company chief, said a bystander had attempted to get the 14-year-old girl out from the waist-deep mud but had no luck.

Firefighters extended a ladder to remove the girl, which took about 30 minutes, Farry said.

In total, the girl, who was at the park with friends, was stuck in the mud for roughly 45 minutes, the chief said.

The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad transported the girl to nearby St. Mary Medical Center for evaluation. Farry said the 14-year-old girl was alert and did not appear seriously hurt.

“All in all it ended up okay, but the dangers of that mud is something,” Farry said, warning others to watch out.

The location of the girl along the muddy lake, which is currently very low due to a dredging project, made it harder for crews to get equipment to the scene.
