McRae died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds and being dumped on I-295 near the I-95 interchange in Bristol Township early on the morning of Sunday, January 19, 2020.

In the hours after McRae’s body was discovered, the highway was closed as the state police Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit processed the scene. A truck driver told this news organization at the time that troopers were combing the highway with their flashlights looking for evidence after the body was discovered.

In the days following the man’s body was found, troopers were across the area seeking details on the homicide. Troopers asked residents of Middletown Township’s Highland Park neighborhood if they heard gunshots in the hours leading up to McRae’s body being found.
