A man from Bristol Township’s Croydon section entered a negotiated guilty plea last week for a 2021 robbery.

Malcolm Xavier Shields, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and prosecutors did not move forward with other charges of robbery, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property, theft, and disorderly conduct.
Common Pleas President Judge Wallace Bateman sentenced Shields to two and a half years to five years in prison. He was given credit for 346 days already in county lockup and ordered not to have contact with the victim and pay $800 restitution.
According to court papers, Bristol Township police were dispatched on the afternoon of July 10, 2021 to the 2900 block of River Road in Croydon for a report of an armed robbery.

The victim said he went to the Wawa in Croydon with Shields to withdraw $800 to pay for rent for an apartment he was thinking of renting in the Doylestown area, police said.
After withdrawing the money from Wawa, the two were expected to head to look at the apartment. Instead, they headed to the 2900 block of River Road where Shields asked the man to hand him the cash and displayed a towel that he implied was hiding a gun, authorities said.

Shields reportedly threatened the man and the victim turned over the cash, authorities said.
Police said in court papers that they had surveillance video that showed parts of the incident.
Shields has had past run-ins with police and was being sought in an unrelated case at the time of his arrest for the robbery.

Shields was sentenced in December 2021 in a Northampton Township drug case. He was order to serve a year of probation by Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Finley.
