The students of Bucks County Technical High School’s Key Club had to wait two years, but their fifth annual Mini-THON event returned earlier this month with much success.

The seven-hour dance marathon took place at the regional technical high school in Bristol Township and raised $17,246 to support the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Childrenโ€™s Hospital. More than 190 students and 20 teachers took part.

Students danced with the Phillie Phanatic, took part in competitions, and had fun during the event.

โ€œMini-THON is one of the biggest events at BCTHS,” said Amanda Bucantis, co-advisor for Mini-THON.  โ€œItโ€™s an event that gets everyone in the school community involved.โ€

Katelyn Hyland, co-advisor of Mini-THON said: “At BCTHS, there is a strong sense of community. We prepare students to enter the world at 18 with a set of skills that make them employable or more prepared for the next academic chapter in their lives. Mini-THON is a big part of that as we are showing our kids how to give back to the community around them and the importance of working together for the common good. Mini-THON is not just changing the lives of the families we help, but the lives of our students as well.”

Leading up to the Mini-THON, Key Club worked to raise funds for the event by canning for dollars and spare change in the cafeteria every month, hosting dine and donate nights at local restaurants, holding a hat day, and the ever-popular pie-in-the-face contest where students smashed a pie in a teacher’s face.

“The mission of Four Diamonds is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children being treated at Penn State Childrenโ€™s Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research. Modeled after Penn Stateโ€™s THON, ‘Four Diamonds Mini-Thon’ originated in 1993 to empower students to learn about event management and philanthropy by joining in the fight against childhood cancer to fulfill the mission of Four Diamonds,” according to the organizers of the event.
