Late last year, Hofmann pleaded guilty to charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 13 years old, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16 years old, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old, statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors.

According to prosecutors, the victim, who is now in his 30s, testified during Monday’s sentencing that Hofmann’s abuse impacted every facet of his life. He said the abuse destroyed his childhood.

“With his brave decision to come forward once he was ready to do so, this brave victim sends a powerful message to victims of sex abuse everywhere: it’s never too late to speak your truth,” District Attorney Matt Weintraub said in a statement after the sentencing.

The sexual assaults and abuse took place starting in summer 1995, authorities said.

Hofmann was a friend of the victim’s family and lived with them at times when the abuse was happening.

Hofmann was referred to as “Uncle Dave” by the family, prosecutors said.

The victim reported the abuse to his parents in 2007, but it was not taken to the police at that time, authorities said.

“The victim’s parents recorded a video conversation with Hofmann. In the video, which was played during his trial, Hofmann admitted to sexually abusing the victim,” the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

In February 2020, the victim went to Falls Township police to report the abuse.

Hofmann was recorded in a phone conversation with the victim and admitted to sexually abusing him as a boy, authorities said.

“On June 8, 2020, a phone call between an individual and Hofmann was audio recorded. During the conversation, Hofmann made numerous admissions to sexually assaulting [the victim] and indicated that he sexually assaulted other juvenile males in addition to [the victim],” a detective wrote in court papers.

Hofmann has been in jail since his 2020 arrest.
