The district last week said the incident happened near Saxony Lane by Edgewood Elementary School in Lower Makefield Township.

In a Saturday note to parents, Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith said police investigated the incident and determined “the individual did not intend to cause any harm or concern.”

“A red pickup truck pulled over and asked the 6 year old girl if she wanted a tennis ball (holding it close to the passenger side window) and then drove off,” officials said last week of the incident.

The incident was reported via the state’s Safe2Say tipline.

Below is the note from the superintendent:

Earlier this week, I shared a report regarding a concerning situation near the Edgewood Elementary School. Given the age of the students involved, we wanted to share this information with the greater school community as soon as it was reported.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department has thoroughly investigated the report and determined that the individual did not intend to cause any harm or concern.

The students involved did the right thing by reporting their concerns to a trusted adult. We would also like to thank the Lower Makefield Township Police Department for its commitment to student safety and for ensuring this was thoroughly investigated.

As a reminder, Pennsbury uses Safe2Say, an anonymous tip line, to alert us to any individual who may be struggling and/or in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Every tip is investigated.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
