Joseph “Joe” Hogan, who is a resident of Middletown Township’s Langhorne section, announced his candidacy Thursday, two days after Farry, a Republican, announced he was planning to run for the state senate.
The 142nd Legislative District’s new map that takes effect in the new year covers all of Langhorne Borough, Langhorne Manor Borough, Lower Southampton Township, and Penndel Borough and part of Middletown and Northampton townships.
No Democrats have announced a run for the seat as of Thursday.

“A series of life experiences and opportunities have shaped me into the man I am today. Growing up in Lower Bucks County as the son of a union carpenter, Marine Corps veteran, and a stay-at-home mom, I learned early on that if you stay in school, work hard, and give back to your community, you can achieve any dream you desire,” Hogan said.
The candidate said the “dreams” many aspire to are “becoming harder and harder to reach” due to inflation, crime, global conflicts, opioid overdoses and the impacts of COVID-19, including mandated closures.

“I am running to represent the 142nd Legislative District because it’s time to put our families first. I’ll push to reduce the gas tax burden, address the violent crime crisis, freeze property taxes for our seniors, and on day-one, introduce a package of government reform bills to reign in cronyism,” Hogan said.
If elected, the candidate said he will be “pro-active and focused on families, not special interests.”
“It is always public service, not politics, that drives us to do our best. I saw that every day while working for the late Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, lived it while working for the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority, and promoted it as a volunteer in our community,” Hogan said.

Hogan, who is married to his wife Janita, grew up in Levittown and graduated from Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Penn State University in community and economic development. He is currently working on obtaining his law degree from Temple University.
Over his career, Hogan worked for the late Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick in Bucks County and in Washington D.C. He recently worked as the program director for the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County.

Recently, Hogan returned from a trip to the Polish and Ukrainian border with his wife and two former Fitzpatrick staffers to provide humanitarian assistance.
Farry has served the 142nd Legislative District since 2009. Christopher King, a Democrat, held the seat prior to Farry, but Republicans held it for decades before that.
