A Democrat has thrown their hat in the ring for the Sixth Senate District race.

Attorney Ann Marie Mitchell, a resident of Northampton Township’s Ivyland section, will be running to fill the seat.
State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson, a Republican from Bensalem Township, currently holds the seat, but he is retiring and not running for another term.
Republican State Rep. Frank Farry, an attorney from Langhorne Borough, will also be running for the seat.

As of Wednesday, the two were running unopposed for their parties’ spring primary.
The new Sixth Senate District, which goes into effect in 2023, covers Bensalem Township, Hulmeville Borough, Ivyland Borough, Langhorne Borough, Langhorne Manor Borough, Lower Southampton Township, Middletown Township, Penndel Borough, Northampton Township, Upper Southampton Township, Warminster Township, Warwick Township, Warrington Township, and Wrightstown Township.

Mitchell previously ran against Republican State Rep. Wendi Thomas in 2020, but she lost that race.
Mitchell’s state senate campaign has been in the works for weeks and an announcement event in Upper Southampton is planned for next Tuesday.
“Harrisburg is broken. The state legislature majority and our local state representatives in that majority have not been doing enough for our families. Our community deserves a champion, not another lifetime politician,” Mitchell told LevittownNow.com.

Mitchell, a wife and mother of two adult children, is a business attorney and small business owner. She is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania and earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
On her website, Mitchell said she supports cutting taxes, increasing mental health awareness and opioid recovery, fighting for “fair treatment,” and supporting access to more affordable health care and medications.

In her 2020 House race, Mitchell was endorsed by former President Barack Obama.
