A quick-service BBQ chain is opening a location in Falls Township next year.
The Falls Township Board of Supervisors on Monday evening approved a waiver of land development so Mission BBQ can open in about half of the former 8,885-square-foot former Pier 1 store off Commerce Boulevard and Oxford Valley Road. The Pier 1 store closed in early 2020.

Roger Sullivan, the attorney representing Mission BBQ, told the supervisors an “unidentified retailer” will take the remaining space in the closed Pier 1 building.
Mission BBQ plans to add a 510-square-foot covered outdoor eating area outside of the building.
The Mission BBQ will offer dine-in service and also curbside pickup, Sullivan said.

The plan is for the new eatery to open in July 2022, Sullivan said.
Mission BBQ began operations on September 11, 2011. It was founded by two friends and has expanded to 17 states. The chain is known for supporting emergency responders and military organizations.

The chain already operates locations nearby in Warminster Township, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia. It is soon to open a location across the Delaware River in Hamilton, New Jersey.
“We should probably make a road trip down to a Mission BBQ and check it out before this one opens,” Supervisor Chairman Jeff Dence said with a chuckle.
