A second fire in two weeks has struck Hollow Road in Middletown Township’s Levittown section.

The latest fire happened around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 80 block of Hollow Road. The November 28 electrical fire that badly damaged a residence was just a few doors down.

Police first arrived early Tuesday and found the resident outside with flames visible inside the residence. Firefighters then pulled up and went to work fighting heavy flames on the first floor on the side and back of the house, Penndel Fire Company Deputy Chief Sam Simon said.

Crews were making progress on putting down the fire when several propane tanks on the side of the home were impacted by the blaze. Flames were shooting from the pressure valves on the tanks, Simon said.

“The tanks just fueled the fire against the back of the house and it actually burnt through the power lines. They were like blow torches,” he said.

It took about an hour to get the fire under control.

Don Harris, the interim fire marshal, said the blaze remained under investigation as of late morning.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania was assisting the resident.

Considering it was the second nighttime fire on the block, Simon advised residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.

The Penndel Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Fairless Hills, Langhorne-Middletown, Newportville, Parkland, and William Penn fire companies. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad stood by at the scene.
