Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick voted with the majority of Republicans against censuring a colleague from Arizona.

The resolution to censure Congressman Paul Gosar, a Republican, passed 223-207 Wednesday. Two Republicans, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, and Congressman Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois, joined Democrats in voting in favor of Gosarโ€™s censure. Congressman Dave Joyce, a Republican from Ohio, voted โ€œpresent.โ€

The resolution also stripped Gosar of his committee assignments, including a post on the House Oversight Committee.

Gosar was censured after sharing an edited anime video on social media showing himย slashing Congresswoman Alexandriaย Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Democrat from New York, with a sword and attacking President Joe Biden. After criticism, the congressman, known for advancing conspiracy theories in the past, removed the video, but he reshared it after being censured Wednesday.

“Everyone knows this censure was theater,” Gosar tweeted after the vote.

PBS Newshour reported many Republican members of Congress don’t support Gosar behind the scenes, but they were upset Democrats haven’t policed some of there members for their behavior.

Fitzpatrick, a three-term Republican from Middletown Township, voted earlier this year to remove Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from committee assignments over her support of easily debunked conspiracy theories, including one that there was a laser in space that was controlled by a Jewish banking family.
