The Bucks County Planning Commission is looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety at a busy area intersection.
The planning commission and engineering firm McCormick Taylor are studying ways to make the intersection of Route 13 and Levittown Parkway in Tullytown Borough safer for those on foot or using bicycles.

Last week, the planning commission held a virtual public meeting on potential improvements to the intersection.
Matt Galenas, a traffic engineer at McCormick Taylor, suggested adding better pedestrian signals for those crossing to and from the Levittown Train Station, making adjustments to the shoulder in front of the Dunkin’ location, adjusting the Delaware Canal trail to cross at the intersection instead of several yards away, adding a flashing yellow left turn light, and creating sidewalk access from the Levittown Town Center shopping area to intersection.
There has also been talk of a proposing a pedestrian bridge over six-lane Route 13. That option is being explored.

County documents show that more than 20,000 vehicles per day travel on Route 13. Deaths of pedestrians have been a problem in Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, and Tullytown Borough.
No funds are committed to improvement projects at this point.

At the virtual meeting, no public comment was provided to planners.
The study will look at three other locations with a “history of pedestrian fatalities and conflicts with vehicular traffic.” The finalized study will propose solutions to improve pedestrian safety.
The study by McCormick Taylor is expected to be completed in early 2022.

The Street Road corridor between Knights Road and Hulmeville Road in Bensalem Township, Street Road between Newtown Road and York Road in Warminster Township, and Street Road between Buck Road and Pennsylvania Boulevard in Lower Southampton Township are also being studied.
