COVID-19 Cases Slightly Drop, September Sees Rise In Deaths

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Bucks County slightly dropped last week.

Bucks County had 991 new cases last week, a decrease of about 4 percent over the week prior, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data.

For the second time since April, Bucks County reported more than 200 new cases in one day on Saturday.

The number of new cases last week was significantly higher than this time last year. During the same period last year, there were 241 infections reported.

The COVID-19 test positivity rate in the county remained steady at 6.4 percent. A test positivity rate higher than 5 percent means health experts consider the spread uncontrolled.

On Monday, hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 in Bucks County was at 66. Among those 66 patients, 13 were in intensive care, according state data.

State data showed three COVID-19 deaths reported in Bucks County last week.

During the month of September, there were 28 COVID-19 deaths of Bucks Countians, a rise over the 13 deaths reported in August. The September figure was the highest monthly number since early spring, according to state data.

At least 111 children newborn to age 12 tested positive for COVID-19 and there were 76 cases among kids ages 12 to 18 between September 25 to October 1, according to the Bucks County Department of Health.

The number of COVID-19 vaccinations administered continued to rise, but the number of new fully vaccinated people dropped over the week prior.

The county had about 1,680 additional people get fully vaccinated over the last week and numerous third doses administered, according to state health department data.

A total of 40,670 Bucks Countians were partially vaccinated and 336,471 were fully vaccinated at the start of this week, according to state data.

State data recently showed that nearly all people who died of COVID-19 or were hospitalized with the novel virus in recent months were not fully vaccinated.
