A national grocery chain will be opening a store in Middletown Township, but the big question remains: which one?

Buzz about what is coming to the Lincoln Plaza shopping center off East Lincoln Highway near the Oxford Valley Mall has been going for months with locals speculating whether it will be an Amazon Fresh grocery store, Hobby Lobby, Trader Joe’s, or a variety of other stores.

Paramount Realty, which purchased the shopping plaza for more than $34 million last year, has advertised a “national grocer” is coming between the DSW and the Michaels.

Crews have been working on renovating the site in Lincoln Plaza for months.

Workers recently told LevittownNow.com they weren’t able to talk about what was going into the site.

Middletown Township’s building and zoning director has been mum on whether he knows what is going into the space.

Renderings included in a Paramount Realty sales brochure shows a mockup of a grocery store that has similar stylings to that used by Amazon’s new chain of new grocery stores.

The rendering could be nothing more than an artistic proposal, but it provides a clue that could indicate what is filling the space.

Laura Hayes, an Amazon spokesperson, said the company “doesn’t comment on rumor or speculation.”

Amazon Fresh recently opened its first Pennsylvania location in Warrington Township. The 35,000-square-foot store took the place of a former Genuardi’s off Route 611. It includes grocery store staples, food delivery, and shopping carts that let customers check out without needing a clerk.

An Amazon Fresh location also appears to be in the works along Street Road in Bensalem Township. The Bucks County Courier Times cited township officials when reporting in May that Amazon was bringing their new grocery concept to the township.

The area near the Middletown Township location already has a Giant Food Store, Redner’s Market, Aldi, and ShopRite. A Lidl grocery store will soon be under construction along New Falls Road in Bristol Township.

As construction moves forward, a more clear picture of what is coming to the shopping center will become more clear.
