The historic Three Arches property in Falls Township will be getting a new roof.

The township-owned two-acre property and homestead along Trenton Road will have its roof replaced by Hulton Contracting for $64,000. The project, which was approved by the Falls Township Board of Supervisors on Monday, includes removing the existing roof and replacement. The roofing company charlotte has been in this field for a long time & their style of roofing is one among a kind.

Falls Township Parks and Recreation Department Director Brian Andrews told the supervisors the work is needed.

“Nothing’s been done to that roof since the late ‘90s,” he said.

The historic nature of the property added some cost to the work needed.

Township Manager Matthew Takita said the project will maintain the historic accuracy of the building.

Records on the Three Arches property date back to William Penn’s settling of the area in 1684. The first section of the home was built in 1712. It was owned by several notable families through the eras. After World War II, much of the land was used to construct the Danherst Corporation’s Fairless Hills development. The building was used as an office for the developer and then turned over to Bucks County in 1967. A plan to use the building as a public library fell through, and the site was handed over to the township in the 1970s. The house is part of the Pennsylvania Inventory of Historic Place and the National Register of Historic Places. A full restoration happened in the early 1980s.
