The nonprofit United Way of Bucks County and Penn Community Bank have partnered to create a coordinated Disaster Relief Fund to assist those impacted by the July 12 flooding event and recent tornadoes.

The fund is launching with $25,000 donations from both the Falls Township-based United Way of Bucks County and Perkasie-based Penn Community Bank. Dow Chemical has put $10,000 toward the effort.

The money will go toward assisting low-income homeowners who were affected by the flash flooding that hit Bensalem Township, Bristol Borough, and Bristol Township and the tornadoes that hit Bensalem Township and parts of the central and upper parts of the county.

While there are government efforts underway to assist residents impacted by the storms, the Disaster Relief Fund will be separate. However, the fund will coordinate with Bucks County and other organizations assisting residents to “ensure that funds are used efficiently,” a statement said.

โ€œOur community has been hit hard by devastating storms recently. Many people are displaced and many will need help resolving their housing issues,โ€ said Marissa Christie, president and CEO at the United Way of Bucks County. โ€œWe want these people to know that weโ€™re here for them. The Disaster Relief Fund will help fill in the gaps for these impacted residents who have no other options.โ€

โ€œAs a community-first organization, weโ€™re committed to serving our region โ€“ including those most in need,โ€ said Penn Community Bank President and CEO Jeane Vidoni. โ€œPenn Community Bank is proud to once again partner with United Way of Bucks County and pledge our support to the Disaster Relief Fund.โ€

Moving forward, the nonprofit is looking for additional corporate partners to assist with the Disaster Relief Fund.

The United Way of Bucks County’s HELP Center in Bristol Borough has been helping residents in getting cleaning supplies, nonperishable food, clothing, towels, and other essentials goods at no cost following the flooding.
