Pennsbury Graduates 770 Students Under Sunny Skies

In a year filled with uncertainty, the 770 seniors at Pennsbury High School graduated Thursday evening under sunny skies and seasonable temperatures.

Graduation was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but it was moved to Thursday due to storms. The change seemed to fit the theme for the year that saw students complete their final year of high school amid the nation’s worst pandemic in more than 100 years.

Student Government President Lexie Snyder challenged her peers to have empathy and step into others’ shoes.

“Let your legacy be defined by your capacity for empathy and the courage to achieve ‘small great things,’” she said.

Student speaker Alvin Wang recalled the past four years, including the semesters taught online. He compared life to a great movie.

“Yet, even if our senior year was a normal one, there isn’t a single movie that could capture the life that this year will slingshot each of us into. The individual paths that we will take will be so different, yet equally as great,” he said.

Daniel Dietrich, another student speaker, said his class made the year work despite the challenges.

“We had a year filled with staring at screens, getting back pain from sitting in a chair too long, and receiving every email starting with the obligatory ‘in these unprecedented times.’ However, despite having one of the most unusual senior experiences ever, we persevered.”

Student speaker Amanda Lee called for her classmates to look back fondly and “find happy memories.”

Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula, who is leaving the Pennsbury School District this summer, noted how proud he was of the class and the district over his term. He called for graduates to live their life with the same resiliency they have shown over the past year.
