Two Pets Killed In Middletown Fire

Two pets were killed in a Tuesday morning fire in Middletown Township.

The two cats died during a kitchen fire in the 1200 block of West Maple Avenue in the township’s Langhorne section. No residents were home, a lizard was rescued, and no firefighters were injured, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the home around 8:45 a.m. after township public works crews at the nearby Detective Christopher Jones Memorial Park spotted the blaze.

Parkland Fire Company Chief T.J. Stressman said the fire was contained to the kitchen of the home and quickly knocked down.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Wednesday, but it started in the area of the stove, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

The Langhorne-Middletown, Lower Southampton, Parkland, Penndel, and William Penn fire companies responded along with the Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Management and Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad.

West Maple Avenue was blocked in the area of the scene while crews were fighting the flames.
