A 1990 graduate of Neshaminy High School encouraged Pennsylvanians to get vaccinated for COVID-19 during a high-profile event Wednesday.

James Franklin, the football coach for Penn State University and a Langhorne native, joined Gov. Tom Wolf, student athlete Theo Johnson, University President Eric Barron, and the famed Nittany Lion mascot.

“We ask Pennsylvanians to continue to get vaccinated so we can continue to return to the activities we enjoyed before the pandemic,” Franklin said.

The football coach said he and his wife got vaccinated to protect his daughter, who has sickle-cell anemia.

“Getting the vaccine will help protect our community and our children … Getting the vaccine will help our local businesses by allowing them to return to normal operation and have large gatherings like football games to boost the economy. Do your part to help us get back together and gather,” he said.

Franklin said less restrictions due to the pandemic will allow fans to gather for upcoming Penn State games at Beaver Stadium.

“The sooner we all get vaccinated, the sooner we can safely get back to doing the things we’ve missed – like cheering on the Nittany Lions in person. Getting vaccinated is a way that each of us can play a part in overcoming this pandemic,” Gov. Tom Wolf said.
