Bucks County’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will take place this weekend.
The countywide event to collect unused, unneeded, or expired prescription medications will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday.

Due to the pandemic, participants have been asked to stay in their vehicles after driving to collection sites. Police or volunteers will direct drivers to collection boxes, where they can pull up and deposit the medications.
“I’m sure everyone in the county has old medications in their cabinets … I think people keep them because they are convinced that once they throw them away, that medical problem they needed them for will come back,” said Bob Harvie, vice chairperson of the Bucks County Commissioners “If you can’t remember why you have the medicine, it’s probably time to get rid of it. The Drug Take-Back event is the perfect way to dispose of those medications safely.”

- Giant Food Store, 4001 New Falls Road, Levittown
- Giant Food Store, 168 North Flowers Mill Road, Langhorne
- Hulmeville Borough Police Department, 321 Main Street, Hulmeville
- Langhorne Borough Hall, 114 East Maple Avenue, Langhorne
- Lower Bucks Hospital – Lobby, 501 Bath Road, Bristol
- Penndel Police Department, 300 South Bellevue Avenue, Penndel
- St. Mary Medical Center – Main Lobby, 121 Langhorne-Newtown Road, Langhorne
- Tullytown Police Department, 500 Main Street, Tullytown

In addition to the medication collections, three sites will be collecting sharps used to inject medications. Those three sites will also distribute overdose-reversal medication naloxone.

The Lower Bucks County sharps collection site is at the Giant Food Store at 2721 Street Road in Bensalem Township.
Since starting taking part in the drug take back day in 2010, Bucks County has collected 152,697 pounds of unused medications. Bucks County’s totals are the highest in Pennsylvania.
“I always thought I disposed of medications, but decided to really look in cupboards and baskets this time,” said Commissioners’ Chairperson Diane Ellis-Marseglia. “To my surprise, I found bottles, jars with labels no longer distinguishable, and medication for pets that passed long ago. I was glad I looked, and now they are ready to drop off at one of the take-back sites.”

“Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we reduce access to unused, unwanted, expired medications,” said Diane Rosati, executive director of the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission. “In Bucks County, we are committed to doing whatever we can to reduce and alleviate substance abuse. We are so please to offer no-cost Narcan, the life-saving medication, as well as safe disposal of sharps, on Saturday.”
