After being closed for months, Cineworld Cinemas announced this week that “select theatres” will be reopening in April.
The company did not release a list of theaters reopening following a six-month COVID-19 shutdown, but the Regal United Artists Oxford Valley theater in Middletown Township could be among those turning projectors back on.

“Regal is thrilled to welcome our guests back to the movies in April,” the company said in a statement on Twitter.
CNBC reported this week that Cineworld Cinemas will reopen more than 500 locations that are part of the Regal chain.
The company said on their website guests will be required to wear face masks, seating will be reduced, more fresh air will be pumped into auditoriums, and physical distancing rules will be in place. Theaters will also have reworked concession stands to allow for more customer safety during the pandemic.

Pennsylvania’s remaining COVID-19 mitigation measures allow for theaters to be open with some safety precautions.
The reopening comes as big budget films like “Godzilla Vs Kong” and “Mortal Kombat” are slated to open in the coming weeks.

Trade publication Deadline Hollywood reported Cineworld Cinemas CEO Mooky Greidinger told them the reopening would be “a great moment for us.”
Cineworld Cinemas closed all its locations in the U.K. and U.S. last October in an effort to save cash after the pandemic and restrictions left theaters largely empty.
NPR reported 40,000 American Cineworld Cinemas employees were furloughed last fall. It was not clear how many employees work at the Middletown Township location on the Oxford Valley Mall property.

CNBC reported that 51 percent of movie theaters in North America had reopened as of last weekend.
The AMC Theater at the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem Township has remained open for much of the past few months.
