Students at Harry S. Truman High School in Bristol Township will be taking part in an open house for Bucks County Community College’s Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program.

The open house for students on Thursday afternoon will be held virtually and provide students information on the program, the career outlook, admission insights, and a question and answer session live from the laboratory at Bucks County Community Collegeโ€™s Gene and Marlene Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks.

โ€œStudents will learn more about a profession they probably donโ€™t know exists,โ€ said Professor and MLT Program Director Karen Gatewood.

The MLT program will award students an associates degree at competition. Medical laboratory technicians are part of the health care team that performs laboratory procedures and analyzes results.

โ€œWe’ve developed an incredible relationship with Bucks from our expanding dual enrollment program hosted here at Truman to many of our graduates who matriculate there every fall,โ€ said Principal Jon Craig. โ€œWe’re excited to expand that relationship by exposing our students to the MLT program and all the opportunities that it offers.โ€

The MLT occupational major is a two-year, 68-credit program prepares students both educationally and clinically to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) examination for credentialing and to seek employment as a medical laboratory technician.

โ€œStudents graduate with an associate degree and are immediately ready to work,โ€ said Gatewood.
