The presidential inauguration draws normally support from the Pennsylvania National Guard, and that will be no different this year.

The event that will see President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris sworn on the steps of the U.S. Capitol on January 20 will see a massive presence of federal, state, and local law enforcement and military units from across the nation.

Gov. Tom Wolf’s office announced that approximately 1,000 Pennsylvania National Guard members from across the state will be heading to local armoriesย over the next few days to receive their assignments and then travel to the Washington D.C. area to support the inauguration.

Biden’s inauguration will be scaled back due to the global pandemic, but the high-security event will likely have even more security after a large group of rioters upset about President Donald Trump’s election loss broke into the U.S. Capitol and worked to storm the two chambers.

โ€œThe unprecedented and disturbing events yesterday in our nationโ€™s capital are cause for ongoing concern and Pennsylvania is prepared to assist as needed in securing peace and an orderly transfer of power on January 20,โ€ย Wolfย said in a statement. โ€œOur National Guard members willย assist the D.C. National Guard and local civilian authorities as they work to keep the area surrounding the Capitol and other locations secure in the coming days leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.โ€
