A dog is recovering after getting caught in an animal trap.
At least two animal traps were discovered in the wooded greenbelt near Mill Creek between the Lower Orchard and Juniper Hill neighbors in Middletown Township’s Levittown section. The traps were found on public property, according to police.

The township has an ordinance that bans trapping of animals on property owned in the municipality.
Earlier this week, the dog got caught in one of the traps and was injured, but it avoided any broken bones. The township’s animal control officer checked with the dog’s owner Thursday and learned the pooch was still limping and had remaining bruising, police Captain Peter Feeney said.
The captain said the dog was larger and a smaller dog or cat likely would have suffered more serious injuries.

The animal control officer found the trap the dog got snared in and another. The officer removed both traps, Feeney said.
Patrol officers and the animal control officer have been checking the greenbelts in the township for more traps.

“At this time there is no information on who might have placed the traps but that is being investigated,” Feeney said.
Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said animal traps being found on township land is uncommon.
