Man Struck, Killed On Route 1; Police Seek Driver

Police said the person who was struck and killed may have been on a bicycle, but they are not certain. Their investigation is ongoing.

The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian along Route 1 in Falls Township fled the scene.

Around 1:10 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to Route 1 northbound in the area of the Fairless Hills exit for a struck pedestrian. They arrived and found a 34-year-old man dead at the scene, police said.

The suspected striking vehicle – a black 2006 BMW sedan with New Jersey registration R54 EVK – was found not far past the Fairless Hills exit. No driver was present, police said.

K-9 teams responded and searched the area for the driver, who was not located.

The driver is suspected of getting away from the scene in another vehicle, police said.

The vehicle is registered to Tierra Barber from Beakes Street in Trenton. Officers went to Barber’s home and were unable to contact anyone residence, police said.

Investigators were working as of late Thursday morning to contact the family of the man who was struck and killed. Acting Chief Nelson Whitney said the victim was from out of state.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for hours as police investigated the crash.
