A Neshaminy School District student who attended an in-person orientation this week has tested positive for COVID-19, the district confirmed Thursday.
The district sent a letter home to parents at Maple Point Middle School in Middletown Township on Wednesday night stating that a student who attended the orientation on Tuesday received a positive test Wednesday.

The student was reported to have worn a mask all day, aside from lunch, and did not take a school bus, the district said, adding the student was asymptomatic.
The letter from Principal Andy Sokol said Neshaminy contacted the Bucks County Department of Health and gathered district leadership to determine potential close contacts the student had. Health department director Dr. David Damsker said the risk to other students in “extremely low to others based on distance, masks, and duration.”
The middle school team will carry out their own notification process, including the letter sent out to parents, alerting parents of each student present in the ill student’s class, and speak with parents of each student with desks adjacent to the COVID-19-positive middle schoolers, Sokol said.

“The quick and full disclosure by parents regarding this incident should be applauded,” Sokol wrote.
The county health department will carry out their own contact tracing effort.

Chris Stanley, the spokesperson for the district, said the district is not aware of any other cases among students who attended the in-person orientations.
Like all public schools in the Levittown area, Neshaminy is teaching students virtually but held some in-person events to start the school year.
