An aging playground in Middletown Township’s Levittown section will be getting an overhaul.
The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors on Monday approved the purchase of new playground equipment at Upper Orchard Park at Upper Orchard Drive and Unity Drive along the greenbelt from Marturano Recreation Company in the amount not to exceed $81,582.28.

The new playground will feature a large play area, swings, a set of equipment that makes music, and spring bouncers. The swings will be in the same style as ones added to Firefighter Park in the Langhorne section of the township.
Parks and Recreation Director Paul Kopera said the current playground is getting older and needs upgrading due to some safety concerns. He added that new playgrounds offer new options and safety features.

The typical playground in the township lasts about 15 years, about two generations of kids, Kopera said.

Supervisor Dawn Quirple suggested the township include a swing that is designed for kids with special needs, which Kopera said he would look into.
The township oversees 12 different playground and has been upgrading them over the past few years.
