Neshaminy Extends Tax Discount, Penalty Period

The school board meeting Tuesday.

The Neshaminy School District eased a bit of a burden for taxpayers who may be struggling.

During their Tuesday evening meeting, the school board voted to extend the 2 percent discount period from August 31 to September 30.

The school board also voted to eliminate the 10 percent penalty for those who pay their property taxes past the October 31 deadline. The taxes will have to be paid by December 31 to avoid a penalty.

School Board President Steve Pirritano said he supported the moves after talking to businesses that just reopened and also homeowners who need a grace period during the economic downturn.

“I don’t think the extended collection period would have any impact on the collection for the year,” Business Administrator Donald Irwin said, noting the extensions would be a benefit for those struggling to pay the bills.

Irwin said July tax revenue was better than expected.

The school board slightly raised taxes for the 2020-2021 school year in June.
