The Bristol Borough School District will start the year virtually.
The school board voted Thursday evening to approve the administration’s plan for starting the school year virtually and a health and safety plan.

The school board, which held their meeting virtually, will reevaluate options for returning to the classroom come October 21.
Health and safety for staff and students was a “top priority” as the district planned for returning to school during the pandemic, Superintendent Dr. Rose Minniti said.
Teachers will use Google Classroom during virtual learning and attendance of students will be tracked.

Minniti and School Board President John D’Angelo acknowledged they understood starting the school year entirely virtually would be an inconvenience for some families.
“We can’t wait to get your kids back here, to be honest with you,” Minniti said during the meeting.

The small school district planned to bring students back for in-person classes in some fashion, but added restrictions dashed plans for the start of the year. Minniti said the virtual start allows the district more time to perfect safety measures for when kids return to classrooms.
With about 70 percent of students on free and reduced lunch programs, the district will be making sure students who need meals get breakfast and lunch, Minniti assured a parent. She added the district is also looking at creative ways to make sure meals get to families who might not be able to pick them up.
Minniti explained the district is still working on scheduling for classes.

For when students do return to the classroom, the district said in their health and safety plan that they will clean all high-touch surfaces at least twice a day, clean desks and tables frequently, sanitize buses once per day, make hand sanitizer available in common areas, allow students to bring water bottles from home, increase ventilation with fresh air, remind students to wash hands regularly, require masks for buses and buildings, limit the number of visitors, and limit field trips.
