COVID-19 cases caught out-of-state continue to be a problem in Bucks County.
While community spread within the county remains low, Bucks County Health Department Director Dr. David Damsker said residents traveling are bringing cases back to the area.

“We’re not seeing a lot of new cases here at all,” Damsker said. “We’re just seeing additional cases from travel.”
Between Tuesday and Thursday, the county reported 68 cases. Among the freshly reported cases, 27 were blamed on out-of-state contacts, 12 were through community spread, 10 were residents or workers at long-term care facilities, eight caught the virus through household contacts, three were through health care settings, three were infected at other workplaces, and five were unable to be immediately reached by contact tracers. Seven cases were too old to be considered infectious.
“Over the past week, we have seen that sometimes a third of our cases, and sometimes closer to half of our cases, are from travel,” Damsker said.

“At least for the next few weeks, I think people need to take a second look at their travel plans, but if they go, to make sure to take extra precautions,” he said.
The county reported infections from travelers who visited the Jersey shore and COVID-19 hot spots Arizona, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

A total of three deaths were reported between Tuesday and Thursday night.
The median age of those infected is 56, health officials said.
As of Thursday night, a total of 64 Bucks Countians were in local hospitals with COVID-19 and nine were in critical condition on ventilators.

Since the pandemic began, the county has reported 5,460 confirmed cases, 510 deaths, and 3,849 recoveries.
