Falls Twp. Cancels Camp, Closes Pinewood Pool For Summer

Credit: Falls Twp.

Falls Township officials announced during Monday evening’s Board of Supervisors meeting that the township’s summer camp program will be cancelled and Pinewood Pool will be closed for the 2020 season.

The township came to their decision after conversations with the county, the Pennsbury School District, and other agencies. The largest concern was the ability to practice social distancing among the 175 campers and those using the popular pool and facilities in Levittown, Parks and Recreation Director Brian Andrews said.

Those who paid for the six-week camp or purchased a Pinewood Pool pass will be refunded.

“We’re doing the best we can. We appreciate everybody’s cooperation,” Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence said. “It wasn’t an easy decision for anybody. We know a lot of people rely on the camp for daycare in the summer. We apologize, but it’s out of our hands.”

Andrews said COVID-19 safety protocols would have also cancelled campers’ excursions and trips to the township pool.

The township has reopened their parks, but kept playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, tennis courts, and bathrooms closed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread.

Dence said he hopes the township can start reopening park amenities soon.

Falls Township plans to reopening the municipal building on Lincoln Highway early next month with the public being welcomed by appointment.
