Newportville Fire Company Chief John Doster said crews arrived to find flames bellowing from the front of the structure.

“We had a good amount of fire when we arrived,” Doster said.

The flames eventually worked their way to the second floor and caused significant damage.

The fire marshal ruled the blaze an arson.

It took firefighters an hour and 12 minutes to fully contain the fire due to extensive overhaul needed at the scene, Doster said.

The Cornwells, Goodwill Hose, Newport, and Levittown No. 2 fire companies assisted Newportville crews at the scene.
