The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is planning a new support complex in Middletown Township.

The commission is looking to build a new center featuring a 47,000-square-foot, single-story maintenance building and a 3,000-ton salt barn.

LevittownNow.com has learned the new facility is planned for a 6.1-acre lot in the 100 block of Woodbourne Road between Wood Lane and Big Oak Road in the Langhorne section of Middletown Township. The land sits abutting the railroad bridge and on the curve in the road.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission purchased the property in 2018 and 2019. The 6.1 acres were previously four separate lots bought for a total of $1.85 million.

In a statement, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said site clearing is nearly finished and the maintenance building and salt shed are in the final design process.

The Middletown site is about equal distance to the commission’s Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge and the Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge. The site is also expected to serve three, smaller non-toll bridges – Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge, Calhoun Street Toll Supported Bridge, and the Lower Trenton (“Trenton Makes”) Toll-Supported Bridge.

The Middletown proposal is part of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s plan to upgrade operations and maintenance facilities. They also plan to tear down and replace the commission’s former Morrisville Borough administration building with a smaller building that will house the Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge’s toll plaza staff and security personnel. The Morrisville Borough site will also feature some new maintenance infrastructure.
