SEPTA will be adjusting Regional Rail service starting Tuesday to handle ridership changes created by COVID-19 and the response to stop the spread.
The regional public transit agency announced Monday that its so-called “Severe Weather Plan” for Regional Rail will begin Tuesday and run for at least two weeks. SEPTA officials said the weekday schedule change is due to “changing ridership levels” across Regional Rail, which serves Lower Bucks County on the Trenton and West Trenton lines.

SEPTA Assistant General Manager of Operations Scott Sauer said the special schedule is a 25 percent reduction in service and takes 15 percent less staff. SEPTA will run 581 trains and not the usual 769.
Regional Rail service is an important link for medical workers and other essential workers coming and going from the city, SEPTA General Manager Leslie Richards said.

Due to 14-day mitigation period enacted by Gov. Tom Wolf and schools being out, there still might be problems with staffing in the coming days,ย Sauer said.
Richards said a review of Monday’s Regional Rail numbers will be “critical” for evaluating service going forward.

โAs we respond and do what is needed to slow down – to flatten the curve from COVID-19 – we are constantly monitoring the situation and we will react accordingly,” she said.
Bus service is also being examined across the transit agency.
SEPTA has begun aย “robust daily cleaning program” across its property and equipment.
