Despite the Republic of Ireland and Boston cancelling their celebrations due to coronavirus worries, the Bucks County parade is still scheduled for Saturday morning, organizers said Tuesday.

The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Bristol Township. From there, the parade will march on New Falls Road to the Levittown American Baseball Fields (across from the Thornridge Shopping Center) in Falls Township.

The parade will feature, music, bagpipes, Irish dancers, local businesses, and emergency responders.

At 8 a.m., a pre-parade mass to honor Grand Marshal Terry Hughes, a retired Bristol Township police lieutenant, will take place inside the Chapel of Conwell Egan High School at 611 Wistar Road.

Following the annual parade, a free celebration, called a Hoolie, will take place at noon inside the Ancient Order of Hibernians at 614 Corson Street in Bristol Borough.

The theme for 2020 parade is “Irish Pride and Public Service,” organizers said.

Hughes, the parade grand marshal, has lived in Bucks County for 60 years. He worked his way through the Bristol Township Police Department to become a lieutenant. He has been a long time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 1 and taken part with his family in the Hibernian Hunger Project. Hughes has additionally served as a Deputy Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and has helped run the Coats for Kids and Christmas Food Basket program.

“Through his years in law enforcement and his community volunteer activities, Terry truly embodies the 2020 parade theme ‘Irish pride and public service’. The Parade Committee is proud to honor Terry Hughes as the 2020 Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal,” organizers said.
