One person died in a morning crash on I-95 northbound in Bensalem.

State police confirmed one person died in the four-vehicle crash that closed I-95 from around 6:30 a.m. until around 1 p.m. The crash happened about a mile from the Bristol Exit.

Northbound traffic was backed up for miles and spilled onto area roads, increasing volume on Route 13.

A multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in Bensalem, not far from the Bristol Township border, blocked traffic Friday morning.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes heading toward Bristol Township, a little over a mile from the Bristol Exit.

Pennsylvania State Police said the crash was serious and heavy delays were expected in the area.

As of 7:30 a.m., northbound traffic remained blocked.

A driver stuck in the traffic said it appeared four vehicles were badly damaged with several of them ending up off the highway. The driver, who was heading home to Bristol Borough after work, said a sedan appeared to be ripped apart.

Bensalem firefighters and medics were called to the crash around 6:30 a.m., according to dispatch records.
