After the results of the 2020 Census, Pennsylvania could lose at least one congressional district.
California-based Esri, a geographic information system company, predicts the state could go from 18 congressional districts to 17 following the census as population decreases. The changes will lead to the legislature redrawing congressional districts, a process that has drawn scrutiny for lack of public input.

On Wednesday, March 11, Tony Crocamo, advocacy team speaker from Fair Districts PA, will be speaking from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Middletown Municipal Complex at 3 Municipal Way to talk about the state of redistricting reform. The event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Bucks County.
“In his presentation, ‘Misshapen Democracy: Why Voting District Maps Matter,’ Crocamo will address the current process of redistricting in Pennsylvania and explain the proposed legislation in Harrisburg that would bring the change that two thirds of Pennsylvanians say they want; an independent commission to handle redistricting,” organizers said.
A 2018 Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling redrew congressional district maps. That ruling only covered the current maps and plays no rule when new ones are created.
