A man is facing charges after an hours-long Thursday standoff in Middletown.
The man – a 63-year-old resident of a home on Hulmeville Road near the intersection of West Gilliam Avenue – will be charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, according to a court docket. While the charges have been filed, the man has not yet been arraigned before a district judge.

The standoff started around 1:55 p.m. when police were called to the home in the 420 block of Hulmeville Road in the township’s Langhorne section after a report the man made threats. He was said to have had a firearm, police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said.
Tactical officers from the South Central Emergency Response Team, which is made up on numerous Lower Bucks County police departments, were able to take the man into custody shortly around 6:45 p.m. Tactical officers entered the home and detained the man without incident, Bartorilla said.
The man did not fire any shots at police and officers did not shoot at him, the chief said.

The 63-year-old man, a military veteran, was taken into custody and transported for a mental health evaluation. He was not injured, Bartorilla said.
Police negotiators used a loudspeaker to make contact with the man. Bartorilla said officers attempted to also make contact with the man via phone but he cut off communication early on.

A number of residents around the standoff scene sheltered in place or were kept away if they were on their way back to their homes.
A Lenco Bearcat and a large MRAP armored vehicle were used by tactical officers to approach the home.
The standoff closed intersections around the scene through the afternoon and evening. Several Neshaminy School District buses from Tawanka Elementary School, Herbert Hoover Elementary School, Maple Point Middle School, and Neshaminy High School were delayed.

In November 2016, a standoff involving shots fired happened only a few homes down Hulmeville Road. In that incident, the man was taken into custody.
