Neshaminy State Park that sits along the Delaware River in Bensalem and Bristol Township’s Croydon section is getting a new park manager.

Kaitlyn Gundersen-Thorpe, who recently was the assistant manager at Promised Land State Park in Pike County, will oversee the 339-acre Neshaminy State Park and 275-acre Benjamin Rush State Park nearby in Philadelphia.

Neshaminy State Park is known for its trails, swimming pool, kids’ spray park, riverfront access, and 370-slip mooring facility. Nearby, Benjamin Rush State Park features wooded areas, a large community garden, and an area for flying of radio-controlled model airplanes.

Gundersen-Thorpe, 29, of West Berlin, Camden County, New Jersey, takes the role from Brian Heath, who recently was named manager at Gifford Pinchot State Park in York County.

Gundersen-Thorpe will work out of the office at Neshaminy State Park and brings her love of the outdoors to the new job.

“I always have loved outdoor recreation, from camping trips with my family as a kid to hiking and running on state park trails as an adult,” she said. “I am excited to work in the southeast again and help promote and protect our valuable resources alongside such a dedicated staff and community.”

In 2014, Gundersen-Thorpe began at the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as a ranger based at Ridley Creek State Park in Delaware County. She worked as a manager trainee program at Nockamixon State Park in Upper Bucks County.

“Transitioning from ranger to managerial positions within the Bureau of State Parks, Kaitlyn quickly has distinguished herself with public relations and administrative skills,” Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said. “Those qualities will well serve visitors to Neshaminy and Benjamin Rush, two busy state parks in the heavily populated southeast section of the state.”
