The opening of the Mill Creek Road bridge has been delayed.
On Monday, crews were working on the bridge deck of the span that crosses the Martins Creek in Falls Township. Bucks County General Services Director Kevin Spencer said contractors are building the deck and the sides of the bridge and have placed the final beams.

One of the final steps will be to pave the road surface leading up to the bridge deck, which is weather dependant, Spencer said.
The bridge closed in August 2018 and was expected to open by December, but rainy weather, utility issues, and other circumstances have caused delays, Spencer said.

The county general services director said the goal is to complete the bridge by March, but favorable weather could speed up the process.

“We’re hoping if we get warmer weather days, we can get it wrapped up,” he said.
The bridge replacement is costing $2 million as part of a contract awarded to Easton-based Bi-State Construction Company.

Spencer said the delays have not cost the county extra.
Aside from heavy rain that caused a high water table, delays were caused by time-consuming utility work that caused localized power outages as high tension power lines had to be lifted above the construction site. The last outage was carried out earlier this month, Spencer said.
The previous 78-foot-bridge was built in 1961 and had deteriorated in recent years.
