A series of small brush fires popped up along Route 1 early Friday afternoon.
The small blazes between I-95 and Morrisville Borough were quickly put down by volunteer firefighters, but caused smoke to fill the lanes of the highway.

Falls Township Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said the cause was unknown and referred the incident to PennDOT, which controls the highway.
Readers who drove by said the fires burned in the brush just off Route 1.
Dippolito said there was a similar incident last year, and he suspects a problem involving an underground electrical system might be involved.
