A priest who previously worked in the Levittown-area has been found “unsuitable for ministry based on a substantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor” by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
The Catholic church’s announcement on Sunday regarding Reverend Monsignor Joseph L. Logrip, 74, comes after his priestly faculties were restricted in January.

“That allegation has been substantiated and he has been found unsuitable for ministry,” the church said.
Logrip worked at St. Ignatius of Antioch in Lower Makefield from 1972 to 1974 and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bristol Township’s Levittown section from 2000 to 2007.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia said a law enforcement probe into the allegations against Logrip did not lead to charges. However, a church-led investigation led to the archbishop accepting that Logrip was unable to serve.

The case will next be forwarded to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican in keeping with procedure for the formal canonical process, church officials said.
The church received an “unsubstantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor” against Logrip following a 2011 Philadelphia grand jury report. He was removed from ministry and later returned in 2014 as a chaplain at Camilla Hall in Chester County, a retirement home for female religious in Chester County, and as a weekend assistant at Saint Peter Parish in West Brandywine in Chester County after the investigation.

The new allegations involve Logrip sexually abusing a child in the early 1980s. The allegations were reported to the archdiocese in late 2018.
Logrip is among several former local church officials who has been accused and removed from their jobs.
Anyone with information on abuse involving the catholic church can contact law enforcement and/or the Office for Investigations at 1-888-930-9010.
