A man was at Jefferson University Hospital’s burn center in Philadelphia after being injured in a Saturday morning fire in Middletown’s Levittown section.

The man was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center before being transported to the city medical facility after the house fire in the 80 block of Upland Road. A young child was also taken to St. Mary Medical Center and released after being examined, Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.
Firefighters were first dispatched to the home for a fire alarm around 6:30 a.m. and the call was quickly upgraded to a working blaze. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the residence.
McGuire said on Saturday afternoon that the fire appeared to have started in a first-floor living room. However, the exact cause was not yet known.

The home sustained heavy damage.
The three residents who were home were jolted awake by the alarm system, which also alerted dispatchers, McGuire said.

In a Facebook post, the Penndel Fire Company said the home belongs to Hugh Cooperman, who has worked at the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad and also is a honorary member of Penndel Fire Company. He has played Santa on the annual Christmas Eve run for a long time.
“Our thoughts are with Hugh Cooperman and his family during this difficult time,” the fire company wrote.

Fire ripped through a home in Middletown’s Levittown section Saturday morning just after daybreak.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Levitt-built home in 80 block of Upland Road at 6:30 a.m. for a fire alarm. The call was quickly upgraded to a working blaze. Crews arrived to find flames coming from the dwelling.

The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad responded and transported two people to St. Mary Medical Center. Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said the two victims were in stable condition as of 9:13 a.m.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the room where it started, a first-floor living area, but the home still sustained significant damage. Some flames extended to the second floor.
