A Brooklyn, New York, woman was arrested in Middletown late last month for allegedly attempting to purchase jewelry under someone else’s name.
Officers were called to the Kay Jewelers in the Oxford Valley Mall in Middletown last Tuesday. A staff member said the woman – identified as Shirlen Toribio, 24 – attempted to purchase a two-tone, 10k gold chain valued at $5,000 using a store credit card and with suspect false identification, police said.

When Toribio went to give her identification to the clerk, it was an Ohio driver’s license with another person’s name for which the store credit card was open under, police said.
Store employees contacted authorities, and officers stopped Toribio, who said she went to get her identification, in the area.
Toribio was charged last week with access device issued to another person who did not authorize use and theft by deception. She was able to post $5,000 cash bail.

This week, Toribio waived her right to a preliminary hearing and her case will move to Common Pleas Court, court records stated.
